Twitter Fight!
While it seems like the rest of the entire social media/tech world is hooting and hollering over the possibility of filtering searches based on the “authority” of users. The idea is that twits (my pet name for twitterers) with more followers have more reach and authority and thus would rank higher in search results.
The whole thing was made irrelevant today when Twitority.com, an authority based twitter search tool, launched.
Social Media Benefits: Why it’s Kinda Cool
Twittory brings the ability to identify and follow the top twits for any keywords. This allows you to easily identify users with similar interests or specialties.
If you’re in to the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Olympics, for example, follow these people
Now it’s not perfect. The search tool is very slow (it is brand new and should get better), and the basis that authority is calculated on is pretty week.
The main problem is that great minds might not have a lot of followers and lesser minds, with a focus on social media, will have more. Regardless, Twittory is another tool that helps you connect to others with potentially similar interests.
Twit Twitter Tip
Remember, twitter (and all social media tools) is a place for conversation and adding value.
Far too many twits focus on gaining followers or pimping their MLM wares for the quick buck. Your opinion, thoughts and interests are what others want to hear about. If you’re passionate about work, your business or a project bring it up. Focus on representing yourself as you would at a cocktail party, that’s how Seth Godin sees it. Check out the video clip here.
