I would be lost, or at least not here writing this, with out my favorite online tool of all time. We’ve had a whirlwind relationship over the past few years, exploring new topics, learning and growing together.

I’m talking about my Google Reader and the RSS Feeds it delivers me (see RSS in Plain English for a great description). When the two combine I’m able to keep up to date on hundreds of blogs in an easy and manageable way. The amount of valuable information available through blogs everywhere is astounding and will no doubt benefit you and your business.

You can get your Google Reader Free from the Google Reader home page.

Great Content in One Place

I’ve put together a collection of my favorite blogs to read and their RSS feeds on my personal Alltop.com page found at  my.Alltop.com/JessSloss

Alltop is a great place to read content, but more importantly, the blogs listed here can provide opportunities to discover new and interesting ideas and topics. By following a blogger, they’ll let you know whats interesting in the area they cover, often providing valuable links in the process.

Visit my.Alltop and click on a link that you find interesting. Look for the RSS icon (most bloggers make this obvious)

A page will load that looks something like this

Next, click on the “add to Google” button, or the approptiate icon depending on which RSS reader you use. A page will load that looks like this

It gives you the option to add the feed to your Reader or to a customized home page called iGoogle (I’ll talk about iGoogle in a later post)

Select the Add to Google Reader Link and boom, you’re subscribed.

When you’re ready to read content, just visit google.com/reader, sign in and start reading. Simple

RSS provides an easy and time saving way to get the content that you want, when you want it. Play around, have fun and start following blogs, you’ll be glad you did.
