Cultural differences, maybe, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that hiring Lap Dancers to promote your event might result in an uproar.
Or maybe not. Either way, Yahoo has been lambasted for it’s choice to have “Hack Girls” on hand to promote an event, referred to by Yahoo Taiwan as one that “give[s] developers an opportunity to learn about our APIs and technologies.
You can bet that some of the ladies out there weren’t to pleased.
“Thanks Yahoo Taiwan for taking down the tech community several more notches. 2009 has been a banner year for sexist behavior in the tech community and this event is a prime example.”
It even led Flickr co founder ( she sold the company to Yahoo) to tweet:
@Yahoo, for shame : http://flic.kr/p/78btX1 I’m frankly disgusted.
Thoughts? Is this the end of tech lap dancers, or just the beginning?
