in Dude! I wish I thought of that., No Way!, the Social Web

Sure Lou probably won’t like it. but given the massive number of migrant workers who risk their lives for a better life in the US of A, this app could prove useful.

Transboarder Migrant App

According to Viceland , the Transboarder Migrant App is designed to “The Transborder Immigrant Tool Helps Mexicans Cross Over Safely” .

Fron Viceland:

“The primary goal of the Transborder Immigrant Tool is to increase safety during border crossing by directing heavy-footed immigrants to safe routes, shelter, food, water, and friendly sympathizers. With the recent surge in militia membership and the Obama administration’s announcement that they will be reducing the number of Border Patrol agents next year, it looks like we’re getting ready to witness a showdown for the ages. And Dominguez couldn’t be happier about the level of shit he is about to seriously disturb.”

  • The Transborder Immigrant Tool (TBT) does not offer a scan bounce signal for triangulation (you would have to use it as a cell phone for that to occur- a dire emergency contingency that is recommended). A single GPS bounce with a "no airport" setting establishes compass mode. The issues of where water is located, support communities, etc., would only be available for access for a few days - the information would have to be refreshed before it could be initiated and warnings in multiple languages will be issued:

It is also important to understand that the tool is also a discursive engine that foregrounds the possibilities for locative media and a disturbance of the social fields that gather around the question of the border and those who cross it.

Hey Jess- as a CA girl, I really appreciate your that app. But...what exactly does it do? By locating safe houses, doesn't it make public those Samaritans harboring illegal immigrants and thus put them at risk?

Very good point. Here's the original article with an interview from the founder.

There's no doubt that since the information is easily accessible, anyone can find it. I'd love to know more about how they plan on dealing with that. The article doesn't really get into things.

I guess time will tell ..
