IAEA Nuclear Social Networks

According to a recent post on IAEA.org the the International Atomic Energy Association is using Social Networks to solve a major challenge for the industry, training and knowledge sharing for Nuclear Decommissioning workers.

From IAEA.org:

Faced with the challenges of delivering the right training to the right people, the IAEA´s International Decommissioning Network (IDN) has begun using popular social networking tools to connect with more than 400 nuclear professionals in 60 countries all year round.

The IDN has started using online learning tools, such as instructional videos and even Linked in, to connect and engage workers around the world.

“We realize that popular online networking tools are the best way of engaging hundreds of people in the nuclear profession whom we couldn’t otherwise reach. The focus of our outreach is to bring together those with developed decommissioning programs and those who need to access them,” says Paul Dinner from the IAEA´s Waste Technology Section.

Social Media for Associations

The post shows the value that Social Media can offer to organizations looking for more than brand exposure. The opportunity to connect and share industry insight can be immensly valuable for Organizations like the IAEA, especially given opportunity costs associated with training highly skilled workers.

Creating Knowledge centers for industry associations is one of the biggest opportunities that social media can provide those organizations. I think we’ll see much more of this moving forward.

Thanks to @ddej for passing this on to me. Apparently nuclear decommissioning is a hobby of his..
