in the Social Web

Mailcounter is to Email, What Tweetmeme is to Twitter

A service from the folks at The Next Web, Mailcounter gives readers an easy way to email a blog post to a friend, while displaying the number of times that post has been shared by email.

Who Uses Email?

Lots and lots and lots of people. Yes folks, there are still people out there that prefer email to facebook or, the wild and crazy twitter.

Just think of the number of times a family member ( usually a parent or aunt/uncle) sends you a chain letter, or a kind of funny picture or, god forbid, a power point presentation.

So it might be a key to a while pile of more traffic for your content. Or maybe not. I’m keeping my eye on TheNextWeb.com to see how often the service is used.

So far: Not Much, but it’s early.

For Publishers

It will work for some blog publishers . The button makes your content more likely to be shared and offers social credit to the post. The more share, tweets or emails the cooler you are on the web. ;)

Right now you can grab the MailCounter Code Here or wait for the service to release a Word Press Plugin in the near future.
