According to a recently release US Government Report 17% of Americans lack access to bank accounts.

That’s huge, and underlines the pressure this down economy is putting on those living at or below the poverty line.

FT.com reports:

Some 60m adult Americans live without a bank account or rely on pawn shops and other non-bank operations to handle their finances, according to a landmark government report on Wednesday that led to calls for banks to expand access to their services.

They go on to comment on the role race plays,

Almost 22 per cent of black households had no bank accounts compared with 3.3 per cent of white households. In some areas the difference was starker: in St Louis, 31 per cent of black households had no bank accounts compared with just 1 per cent of white households.

Sounds like one heck of an opportunity. Banks, you need to get someone get Pete Campbell in there. Did you see what he did with Admiral !?!

After healthcare, this probably should be the next social injustice the US government tackles.
