Work Snug Augmented Reality

Big In 2010 or So they Say

Since it’s list season yet again ( don’t worry, this isn’t one of them) and since each list keeps mentioning Augmented Reality Apps as “things to watch”, I thought I’d share some of the excitement with you.

Mashable just posted a list of 10 awesome Augmented Reality Apps.

What is Augmented Reality

Augmented reality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are merged with (or augmented by) virtual computer-generated imagery – creating a mixed reality. – Wikipedia

Why it’s Cool

The idea of walking down the street with your smartphone held high might sound lame or slightly dangerous, but it’s coming to a street near you. These applications will pull any information imaginable from the interweb and display it in near Heads Up style on your iPhone.

Picture looking down a street in Paris and seeing a list of customer reviews, daily specials and customer satisfaction ratings for each of the shops, deli’s and bakeries. Yup, even expect to see some contextual advertising pop in there.

While I’m not sure that Augmented Reality will be accessible to the average user in 2010, the future of the technology is strong. I’m looking forward to see the innovations in the space.

ps. This Augmented Reality Iphone App looks sweet!

  • Hi Rapid Games,

    Your comment has been moderated.

If you would like to leave a comment about the post or about the Augmented
reality trend, please feel free to. However leaving a comment that only
tries to sell your game is not something we're not all that stoked on.

    Cheers,
