If you haven’t seen this video featuring the Parrot AR Drone, you’re in for a treat.
The Parrot AR.Drone is one of the hottest gadgets at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, not to mention one of the coolest toys that I’ve seen in years. The four-bladed “quadricopter” is equipped with Wi-Fi controls and two onboard cameras. It can hover in midair, be controlled remotely with the iPhone, and it shoots video as it flies.

The promo video introducing the AR.Drone has only been online for a few days, but people have already started talking about what the device might be used for beyond its advertised features. Best-selling cyberpunk author and fellow Vancouverite William Gibson (Tweeting as @greatdismal) asked his followers how they thought the Drone could be put to use at the street level. These answers only begin to scratch the surface of possible uses for the device. Other commenters have suggested using it for surveillance, citizen journalism, activism, and even as a potential tool for terrorists.
