Facebook Borrows From Twitter Again: Welcome to the Facebook ReTweet

I would love it if this new Facebook sharing feature was  called the Facebook ReTweet. It would serve as a constant reminder of who developed what first, so I’m all for it.

Regardless, the new “via” (aka Retweet) functionality is a great thing for online content producers looking to build an audience on Facebook.

It’s actually long overdue.

Below are screen shots of how the new functionality works.

Coles Notes: if someone shares something that you posted, you get credit.

As you can see, by clicking on the share link, users are prompted to enter in their own text. Below that text it shows the default sharing option, in this case “via Social Squared”. Users have the option of opting out of giving credit, though I’m reasonably sure more people won’t.

It looks like this in your news feed

  • good news I guess.

yah I think more people will use the @ on FB and youtube, I am not to custom to it myself.

  • Hope this gains more usage than the @ replies in facebook... besides the early adopters I wonder if it will ever get to the average user on fb. Will be interesting to watch.
  • I think it will be used much more often, and that's a good thing :) Cheers!
