Google as been setting this one up for a long time. With the release of Open Social and Google Connect last year, many of us were sure Google would release Social Networking functionality soon. It finally happened.
Google Buzz is a function built into Gmail that allows for the syndication of and engagement with content from other sites and networks.
The Email Frontier
Email is a very valuable service to users and the companies that operate them. Despite the increased adoption of Facebook as a communications tool, the average internet user still uses email as his or her primary contact point.
It’s so valuable that many say Facebook will be releasing it’s own email service shortly.
Google has a distinct advantage in launching this service to a loyal and large set of internet users, leveraging current Gmail connection to build an instant set of network connections.
Why does that name sound so familiar
If the name Google Buzz sounds familiar it’s because one of it’s search rivals, Yahoo, operates a social news service called Yahoo Buzz.
Weird.
One Big Problem
The biggest problem with Google Buzz is the intrusiveness of the service. Like many of you, my inbox is a sacred place that fills up too fast anyways. Google Buzz adds even more noise, with each message appearing in my inbox.
Buzzzzzzzz…
