Apple, iPhone and a thought on legacy.

by Jess Sloss on June 10, 2008

update: If you missed the key note, here is a 60 sec version that will get you caught up.

The blog-o-sphere has been a buzz with the latest news from the mouth of Apple’s Steve Jobs. The new Apple iPhone is here (well July 11th it will be here) and with it comes location aware software, an application directory, software development kit (SDK) and a great new price.

The iPhone has targeted enterprise users, a direct assault on the Blackberries massive user base. While all the enterprise functions are great, the real cool features are the SDK and location aware capabilities.

The mobile web has seen a slow adoption in North America (almost dead slow here in Canada due to crazy data rates) compared to Asia, specifically Japan. Watching the keynote it is apparent that the iPhone is set to change all that. I believe the iPhone is the first device that will bring mobile and location aware capabilities to the mainstream.

Location Awareness allows the iPhone to locate near by friends, serve location based ads or information and provide another level of social connectivity based on space and location. Really cool stuff. It won’t be long before this space really takes off, so its on our watch list, and should be on yours.

One part of the keynote left me a little perplexed. I watched the Apple Key Note here, the official apple feed of the event. Prior to viewing this message is shown, it’s Apple’s copyright notice. To me it says, “Hey, Jess, you can watch but don’t share”, which confuses me. I wonder if it is just a legacy notice, or some lawyer insisted on it or, well I really don’t know why they would have such a warning.

Share everything, with attention being scarce, every eyeball is valuable and that value is extended when its passed between trusted sources. Just check our what Mahalo did with the footage.

apple\'s copywrite notice. Really you don\'t want us talking about you?
