See the difference in size between the two green dots to the left? That’s the difference between getting it or not.
The big green dot represents opportunity seized, the small shows the cost of not capitalizing on the power of the internet. According to a recent release from Xplane - The Visual Thinking Company. The big dot represents the amount of money, $122 Million, that Obama has raised from small donors using online social networks. The small green dot represents the amount of small donations that McCain has raised, just $27.7 million.
I bring this up because, the difference allows us to graphically represent the cost of not effectively engaging online. Those dots illustrates the huge opportunity for your brand or business online.
Slow to Jump In
According to Ad Age, last year 1 billion advertising dollars were spent online, most of that at the cost of traditional newspapers. While it represents a 15% increase, it only brings the total ad spending in 2007 on the “internet” to $11.3 billion just 7.6% of advertising dollars spent int he U.S.
There is no doubt that the internet represents a huge opportunity for companies. Lucky for you, the big guys are slow to jump in. Leaving massive opportunity for those who are willing to take it.
Is your company destined to be the small dot? Do you have a big dot plan? Which dot do you want to be?
