Get in the Olympic Fast Lane already! (photo: Ariane)

Weather Delay?

I can’t help but be struck today by the dichotomy between the Olympic Games and the foreclosure process surrounding Intrawest/Fortress. On the one hand,  athletes are dropping the hammer, slamming it down, making it happen, entertaining at every turn, non-stop action all day long.

On the other, we have another epic battle that has been shaping up over the last few months,  between Intrawest/Fortress and its’ creditors.  It seems as though both sides have their own Olympic sized manouveurs. While Intrawest has been building excitement surrounding the process by preemptively selling assets to try and accumulate funds to pay down debt (see here), the Creditors have built things up to the point of the ‘auction’ process, but aren’t dropping the hammer on it, instead agreeing to yet another delay in the process to presumably allow Intrawest/Fortress to get its’ finances in order.

“That auction was supposed to happen Feb. 19, but was extended until Feb. 26. The new auction date is believed to be March 1, after the Games have ended, if indeed it happens at all.”(*1)

Check out my new skis … oh wait, they’re two years old and used

Yet, as we have outlined before, in several stories (Intrawest spells ‘Trouble’?), they have repeatedly proven to be the Masters of Delay, Masters of their Domain, but not the Masters of Debt Payment.

Get in the Olympic fast Lane already!

While myself and the rest of the spectators are looking forward to the entertainment of the auction process, but all we’re left with is talk, talk, and more talk.

I, for one, am turning back to watching Men’s XC Biathlon Relay, back to the ease and luster of maximum results. At least there, we see them sweat it out, shoot things, ‘blow it up’, and then win or lose, no draw, no waiting. The Olympics have left me anxious for action, and with even less patience for delays. March 1st cannot come fast enough.

P.S. Yes, I understand the complexities of the process, but Long Track Speed Skating is on!

VISUALIZE THE WIN CANADA! VISUALIZE THE GOLD! (photo cred: selihpxe8)

Yeah, it’s like that. It’s that big.

CANADA vs RUSSIA, the marquee match-up is here! … but, it is just the next step to help us get to the Gold game.

With an entire country becoming a little more anxious, looking for Hockey Gold, I sat back and wondered, what would I do to ensure Canada wins the Gold!? What can we do to swell the positives vibes to such undefendable levels, that we may float off into a parallel universe of Hockey supremacy. Ask not whether your Team can win, ask what you can to get them there.

I practically cried for some other gold medal wins, and if (please ‘when’, please ‘when’!, please ‘when’!!!) Canada wins the Gold Medal in Men’s Hockey specifically (I will also probably cry when Canada beats the US in Women’s Hockey Gold as well. Sweet redemption, sweet sweet redemption!), I will celebrate. But how? A big hug to all my hockey peeps? Cry like a little boy? Go ’streaking’ only to be found 6 years later in a remote fishing village, telling people I simply went ‘mosse hunting’? What level of ‘losing it’ am I going to make it to? Yeah, it’s like that. It’s that big. And, I don’t know what I will do, but I know I will have hours and days of fun doing it!!!

What more will you do to ensure Canada wins the Gold?

Tom Brokaw Explains Canada Update

NBC has filed a take down notice and Youtube has removed the video. I guess NBC doesn’t want the postiive comments and word of mouth that the clip has generated. Instead they’ll probably spend their time complaining about losing money on the Olympics. Darn shame.

I think we can all agree that when it comes to understanding Canadians, American’s are all sunk. Rick Mercer has shown us that much, but will these Olympic Games and the attention they bring really change assumptions and attitudes south of the 49?

I can just imagine the family of 4 from Texas packing their warm clothes and American flags, only to arrive in sunny warm Vancouver, Spring Olympic Host City. No dog sleds, and the only igloo is on the atrium of Pacific Center, what a shock.

Brian Williams Explains Canada to Americans

Apparently the lack of understanding of Canadians is so great that it warrented a 6 minute spot with Tom Brokaw.

Your thoughts? Is he accurate, missed anything? Overstated anything?

The one part I totally disagree with is the “lack of patriotism” or unwillingness to wave our flag. I guess Brokaw hasn’t had the chance to get out on the streets. It’s a sea of red.

Go Canada.

GO CANADA GO!

My dear friend, the Olympic Sporting Events/Pavilions/Beer Gardens/etc everything going down in Vancouver right now:

I love your sporty ways.
You are always there for me.
I wonder what you are doing right now?

Entertaining at every turn.
Stay in or go out, you are up for anything.
Routinely going for the gold. It is just your way.

And, I am not mad at you, even though you took me to figure skating last night.

I love you man!

… Oh wait … am I supposed to be doing work?

Know what I’m sayin’?

I mused yesterday, “I think ‘OLYMPICS’ is latin for ‘permission to watch sports all day, every day, and possibly drink beer for lunch on a Monday’”.

Now, it’s Tuesday. Honestly, is anyone actually getting any work down out there??? Or is this just me? Here in Vancouver, I swear this is like a 2 week National Holiday, … or at least it should be. Like, I have not gone anywhere in town where I can’t see constant sports coverage. So much to do, so much to see, so much energy, … and hockey doesn’t even start until this afternoon!!!

Yes, German Pavilion, I will have a drink. Yes, I know it is lunchtime Tuesday. Dear work, call me later. Go Maelle Ricker in Women’s SBX!

First, this post is for Jon. We’ve had many discussion about our severe distaste for Top 10 lists or 7 Ways to Be Better type posts. I complained about them here.

Hence, my desire to write the title above and to dedicate this post to Jon.

That being said, these really are 3 Hilarious and Popular photos being shared around the web today. Short bits of comedy are the ideal type of content to pass on to a friend, leading this sort of media to dominate popular sharing websites like popurls and Digg.

I realize I run the risk of aleinating the 3 women that read this blog, but this one is kind of funny. I really doubt it was actually an old article, but with lines like this, who cares.

“When it comes to the possibilities of intimate relations with your husband, it is important to remember your marriage vows and in particular, your commitment to obey him”

Wow.

the drink toque beer gift

I’m writing this post because I know Chris would never do it. He’s not the self-congratulatory kind of guy. I on the other hand have no such hang ups in highlighting some of the awesome things happening at Chris’s Company, DrinkToque.com

The Drinktoque

In the off chance that you don’t know what a drink toque is, let me explain it. It’s a toque (aka Beenie) for your drink. The origins of wanting to keep your beer cold but hand warm date back to the earliest inhabitants of the Great White North. I’m 83% certain that Captain Vancouver himself had an early form of the Drink Toque to keep his mitts warm on those cold Pacific nights.

They are more than just functional and come in a variety of stylish colours for everyone from the Outdoors man in your life to ..well someone that likes rainbows. Did I mention they make Excellent gifts for the beer lover?

but I digress. Today I want to showcase some of the awesome mentions they’ve got over the last few months.

Design Nod’s

Just yesterday theDrinkToque was mentioned on the CSS Awards blog in a post called Beautiful E-Commerce Trends of 2010

Nowadays everybody knows the importance of the “design factor” during the webdesign creation. Designers and web agencies are doing the best to get this! We are glad to show our selection of the best sites built on Magento, Prestashop or Zencart. Over the last months, we’ve analyzed numerous e-shop designs, observing emerging trends and weighing the merits of numerous design decisions and coding solutions. In this post, we present Beautiful E-Commerce trends for 2010: recent developments, new design elements and new graphic approaches – CSS Awards

Pretty darn cool.

Product Nod’s

The great thing about the international reach that the Drink Toque has is the chance to use Google Translate. This one is in French.

In a post titled J’ai Froid a ma Biere ( or I like my Beer Cold ) this blogger makes some uniquely french comments on the site and the product. (from Google Translate)

I stumbled upon The Drink Toque, A boutique (Canadian I think) a little wacky, which offers a sort of sock bottle …

They say that when it curdles, a can that comes out of the refrigerator is a bit cold, but I wonder how they obtained the idea for this product!:)
Like anything there are still niche markets on the web …

In short, graphic level was known products licked a little better (but you can submit your creations !!^^’), utility level uh … how to say … But cons that made me laugh!

Oui Oui!

What would a blog post be without a reference to a top 10 list. While I often feel that such posts are the pablum of the web, this is more of a design directory nod than a tastless top 10.

The Drink Toque is in the Top 10 E-commerce sites on Cart Craze

Congrats Drink Toque!
